Come worship at the church of Dennis Pearce
Dennis Pearce began his career as a trainee at Aston Villa, before joining Wolves in 1995. After a handful of appearances, he joined Notts County in 1997, making over 100 appearances and receiving the Fan’s Player of the Year Award in 2000-2001. He joined the Posh in 2001. His Posh career was hampered by injuries and made only a smattering of appearances before leaving for Northwich Victoria in 2004. He’s currently plying his trade in the Conference North with Worcester City.
Although his work on the pitch was curtailed by injury during his time at London Road, it was Dennis’s off-the-pitch work that endeared him to Posh fans and the PLC in particular. His time away from the pitch meant his divine gift was able to blossom, especially his healing powers and infinite wisdom. It was Dennis’s messianic abilities and the overbearing sense of miracle that empowered Posh fans everywhere to spam, an empowerment still in evidence today. Dennis’s presence, and those who worshipped him soon warranted a new title, and the cult of the ‘One True Left Back’ was born in 2003. Members of the cult believe Dennis will one day return to London Road, and leadeth the Posh to salvation and untold glories, returning the club to its rightful place. At the cult’s inception, a set of rules were established, entitled the ‘Ten Commandments of the One True Left Back’. Unfortunately, an apocalyptic event caused by a Dutch cyber-worm meant all record of the Commandments was lost for evermore.
In the absence of the guidelines for living as laid out in a vision to the original two disciples of the One True Left Back by Himself, the members of the cult, like their leader, are currently in the wilderness, awaiting the moment that he will rise again, and the cult of The One True Left Back can assist their master in his divine mission to save the Posh. All they can do know, is live life truly, and wait for the sign.
Below is a prayer to Dennis that escaped the Dutch cyber-worms demonic machinations:
Our Dennis, who art in Worcester,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done,
At Posh as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily pie.
And forgive us our excesses,
As we don’t forgive those who ruin our club.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from Fry.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power,
and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.
